Undergraduate Advising

Upon enrollment in the School of Engineering and Applied Science, every first-year student is assigned a faculty advisor. Students who indicate an interest in biomedical engineering will be assigned to a professor who is a full-time member of the Department of Biomedical Engineering.

The most important role of the faculty advisor is to ascertain that the student meets all the requirements of his or her chosen major while taking the prescribed courses in the proper sequence. Even so, it is the responsibility of the student to know the basic requirements for the major.

All students are required to meet with their advisors at least once each semester during the preregistration periods specified by the Office of the Dean. It is up to the student to make an appointment with their advisor to review the student's progress to date and plan the course selections for the following semester. Besides these mandatory meetings the student is encouraged to maintain contact with his or her advisor and to feel free to ask advice pertaining to extracurricular activities, employment, and/or personal matters.
